How do I track changes to a character?
Making changes to codex entries through progressions.
There are many instances in writing where you might want to make changes to your codex entries (but want to retain the original information).
- Your character gets amnesia and doesn’t remember their backstory?
- A location is renovated mid-story and looks different?
- An object breaks and is no longer magical?
- A character’s opinion on another changes?
These all might be topics that you want to deal with using codex progressions. To learn about codex progressions, and how to add them to your story, see our documentation here.
There are two ways to use progressions in your project:
Addition
If your character gets a piercing, but otherwise everything in their codex entry stays the same, use the addition setting (this is the default, so you don’t need to do anything)
Replacement
If your change means that the original detail is null and void (but you don’t want to rewrite the codex entry) then you will want to use the replacements. By clicking on the actions menu in the codex progression, you can select replace, not add.
